 Alappad Grama Panchayat is a coastal village local body located in the northwestern corner of the Kollam district in Kerala, India.  Overview and GeographyLocation: Situated in the Karunagappally taluk, bounded by the Kayamkulam pozhi to the north, the Kollam-Alappuzha national waterway (T.S. Canal) to the east, the Lakshadweep Sea (Arabian Sea) to the west, and Vatta Kayal to the south. Geography: Stretches across a narrow, roughly 16 km long strip of land squeezed between the sea and the backwaters/canal, with some parts narrowing down to just 33 meters in width. HISTORY

In 1946, the **Panmana–Azheekkal Village Uplift Committee** was formed by bringing together the areas of Panmana, Vellanathuruthu, Pandarathuruthu, Cheriazheekkal, Alappad, Kuzhithara, Parayakadavu, Shrayaikkad and Azheekkal. **Kuttumoottil Janardhanan** was its first President. As per the **Travancore–Cochin Panchayat Act of 1951**, the first Panchayat Committee was constituted following the election held in 1953, with **E. Bhaskaran** as its President. The other first elected members were **K. A. Damodaran (Alappad), Ilayakochu Muthalali (Azheekkal), Raghavan Puthusseril (Cheriazheekkal), and Kochayyathu Kochu Pappu (Kuzhithura–Parayakadavu)**.
